While making the online payment towards self assessment tax,by mistake I paid tax twice.

Please guide me to get the amt paid back.

13 May 2011 I learned from NSDL website that,some mistakes can be cured by the persons according to authority given to them as listed below
PAN/TAN No mistake ---Assesseing Officer(AO)
Asst-Year mistake --do--
Major Head mistake AO/Bank
Amount Bank

In your case you are correct in above things.Hence by filing return you can get the refund in normal course.As per Sec 237 of IT Act if any person pays excess tax than his liability he can get refund. Pl read the section also.
