Rectification or revision of defective return

25 June 2013 I have filed a defective return for the ay 2012-13 within the stipulated time. However there are some mistakes to be rectified in that return. CPC advised me to get the intimation u/s 143(1) in order to file the rectification.When I tried to do so online,I got the message that intimation doesnot exist.

Any solution to this problem?

25 June 2013 To take any action in your case you have to wait upto receipt of intimation u/s143(1) or 139(9) notice. Without receipt of any of the above you can't do any rectification return.

That intimation doesnot exist means for your case process by CPC has not been completed and intimation doesn't generated.

So you are saying you filed your original return u/s139(1) so now you have only one choice is filing of revise return. So either wait till the receipt of intimation and then file rectification return or file revise return now.

so do you advise filing of revised return u/s 139(1)? The revised return U/s 139(9) is not allowed.

25 June 2013 Yes, if you want then file revise return u/s139(4) now.

The ITR4 is not accepting the revised return u/s 139(4) .However it is accepting U/s 139(5)

27 June 2013 Sorry i by mistake said the section is 139(4). For revised return section is 139(5). So proceed with section 139(5).
