20 October 2010 Can someone tell me what basic salary we have to pay to workers on role for eg if an employee having gross salry of 3500/- can we keep basic as Rs 1000/- and other allownace and convey 2500/- and deduct PF on only Rs 1000/- pls advise

As per the minimum wages act Rs .1000 is below the minimum daily wages (minimum daily wages *26)fixed for the worker , so this practice will be void in the views of minimum wages act ,
actually i 'm not mentioning minimum wages coz you have not mentioned the name of state in witch your organization is situated , please mentioned the name of state coz minimum wages is varies from sate to state than only i will be able to give correct advice

20 October 2010 State is Gujarat where minimum wage is revised to 162.4 pls suggest a worker having gross salary of Rs 4500/- and we keep basic salary say Rs 1500/- and balance 3000/- (in HRA and other allowance) and deduct PF on Rs 1500/- will there be any violoation pls advice

20 October 2010 No, You cannot deduct PF on Rs. 1500.00.

PF base amount should be atleast equal to minimum wages.i.e. 162.40X 26 days.
