08 October 2010 I have received a notice under Sec.142(1) from ITO for the AY 2008-09. But I have already filed within the due date for the AY 2008-09. In the notice it is said that I have to file return for the AY 2008-09. Is that I have to file again for the AY 2008-09 or just a covering letter mentioning that the return is already filed along with the photo copy of the return?

09 October 2010 You can reply by a letter along with Xerox copy of Acknoledgement and Tax payment Challan.

09 October 2010 The notice u/s 142(1)shall be issue in two manner first is to file it return and secondly to prepare the true and correct statement of income. genrally if a person has already filed his return of income and after that he recived notice u/s 142(1) than it mean the ito have some air information or other information which has a reason to belive that the persion have escape smoe income or information wich may be vital in the determination of income tax.
