Notice u/s 142(1)

Dear all,
On 10th September 2013 i received notice from Income Tax under section 142(1) asking various details for AY 2008-2009.
But according to sec 142(1) Assessment Officer shall not request to produce any acoounts relating to period more than 3 accounting years prior to the Previous Year.
Hence in my view the notice us 142(1) is time barred.
Please give your Valuable information and Suggestions.
