can the name of a US based company situated in India, contain in its name the words "inc." meaning incorporated instead of Ltd / Pvt Ltd ?

No, Company need to put pvt ltd or ltd as it is mandatory.
Only Sec 25 Companies can use there name without the words "Pvt Ltd/Ltd".
