I have taken a mediclaim policy from Max Bupa, which is a Family Floater. My mother is the proposer, and I and my sister are the other members insured. My mother had to be the proposer, since I cannot be a proposer for my sister.
I am paying the insurance premium. My query is can I claim benefit u/s 80 D and what amount. I have paid Rs 20,000 for the cover of all three members.

First of all you need to ensure whether the policy is as approved as prescribed under sub-section 5 of Sec.80 D. Further you also need to check whether your mother is a senior citizen per eligibility defined or not and family means the spouse and dependent children only but not the sisters, parents to be dependent, accordingly the amount is Rs. 15k or 20k, as the case may be.
