can deduction u/s 80D for mediclaim be taken on foreign travelling policy which covers the medical insurance premium in it.

There is no such restriction in Sec. 80D that health insurance premia for insuring the health in India will only be deductible. Deduction will be allowable provided the other conditions of Sec.80D are fulfilled.

There is no problem in giving deduction U S 80 D for overseas mediclaim policy .
