Dear Sir,
One of my friend purchase flat in chennai thro bank loan & his parents are staying there. He i staying in rented house in diff. place. Now he had a doubt. shall he can claim both principle & interest for the flat & rent paid for his staying?

Yes he can claim principal u/s 80c. And interest u/s 24 as self occupied house by showing the reason that he cannot actually be occupied the house by reason of the fact that owing to his employment carried on at any other place, he has to reside at that other place in building not belonging to him.
And also claim HRA if he is actually paid Rent.
And also claim HRA if he is actually paid Rent.
