Late filing of return

23 April 2012 Dear All,

I have not paid the service tax on 2-3 bills, please suggest me I file the return and then make necessary amendment after making the payment for the same or file the return after making the payment of the due bills.

what will be the effect if I filing my return after the due date.
What will be the penalty.
this will be calculated by no. of days or.....

23 April 2012 It would be better if u can make payment 1st..
Return can be filed after due date but with penalty.....

23 April 2012 I think you should file return on time(it may attract maximum penalty of Rs. 20000). Payment can be made later on with interest. And such amount may be shown in next return as arrear.

24 April 2012 It is advisable to make the payment and then file the returns. Consider the interest and penalty for delayed payment and delay in filing the returns, the cost will be high compared to the compliance by making the payment and filing the returns before the due date.
