09 September 2010 I have a client who have pune juricdiction and also have business in pune. He has acquire agriculture land in utterpradesh(u.p).the incometax department of concern area in up has ask him to show the source of income.my question is that is incometax department of up. have authority to do so?
please also tell me relevant provision & rules.

09 September 2010 As the Income Tax Act is the Central Act unlike the Central Excise Act,1944 which is Unit based, any of the Income Tax authority can ask the details pertaining to the Company as a whole and not necessarily the unit.

However, kindly clarify how the UP Income Tax authority come into picture , while your principal Business is loated in Pune?

09 September 2010 Details could be asked by the UP income tax but while replying to them state in their reply that ur head office is in pune and return is being filed in pune only.
