14 April 2013 Dear Sir's & Friends,

I was trying to file return of my friend for the F.Y. 09-10 on the IT Portal, while uploading i got a message that the date of filing this return is over. What should i do know please suggest.

14 April 2013 For F.Y. 09-10 the relevant A.Y. is 10-11 and the last date of filing is 31.march 2011 with interest.
However as a belated return can be filed upto one year from the end of relevant assessment year, which is 31.mach 2012 in your case. Though after 31.3.2011 it attracts penalty of Rs 5000 in case of income is more than exemption limit, however that can be filed upto 31.03.2011

BUT once the date allowed in belated return u/s 139(4) has passed.A Valid Return can not be filed except you receive a notice for scrutiny ( don't mistake it with a formal letter from the department about whether you filed the return or not, because in response to that you can not file the return)
Since the date 31.03.12 has passed, the portal is showing the message correctly.
