27 July 2013 Sir, please tell me the conditions under which an assessee is required to file the income taxreturn in ITR-2.

If the exempted income is more than Rs. 5000/- then is it compulsory to file return in ITR-2...?

Yes if exempt income is more than Rs 5000 you can not file ITR 1 and therefore needs to file ITR 2.
