This discussion clarifies the eligibility criteria for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) 1. ITR 1 is suitable for resident individuals with a total income up to Rs. 50 lakh, deriving income solely from salary/pension, one house property, or other sources like interest and family pension. Given that the father has two house properties, he is not eligible for ITR 1 and should instead file using ITR 2.
