I have to submit Rectification petition to CPC, but while uploading saved ITR 4S, an error message appears as "Invalid ITR xml File". As such, the file cannot be uploaded. May I know what may be reasons in my XML file ?

An error might have occured try once again to generate xml from the excel, If the problem still persists then download a new excel from the income tax site fill it up and upload. The excel file might have got corrupted

Check the Return Type while uploading the xml file. The type of return selected and type return in excel file(Based on which, xml is generated) shall be the same. Then upload the xml file.
