we are thinking of importing machinery on lease from a uk based co. Can we do that ? if yes, What precautions we should take before entering into lease agreement? Whether RBI permission is required ? Whether this will attract service tax as service tax is consumption base levy.

Yes you can do that. Based on what kind of Machinery you are importing and for which sector. Do vendor anlayis. No service tax on importing machinery
