Issue : Can a Assesse submit his income tax return, if his total income is Rs.1,49,000/- for the assessment year 2010-11.

If yes then please tell me what is the minimum amount of income for submitting IT return.

Taxable Income Slab Tax Slab
Upto Rs. 1,60,000
Up to Rs. 1,90,000 (for women)
Up to Rs. 2,40,000 (for residents, 65 years or above) Nil
Rs. 1,60,001 - Rs. 5,00,000 10%
Rs. 5,00,001 - Rs. 8,00,000 20%
Rs. 8,00,001 and above 30%
Note: In addition, an education cess of 3% is charged on the entire tax amount

Senior citizen 240000
Female 190000
Others 160000

30 August 2010 Voluntary return can be filed anyways as return is filed normally. No problem.
