All Income Tax Return forms are in excel format, but while e-filing a return, we have to upload it in XML format, what is the reason behind that?

1)xml file bears small file size
2)and incometax website was made an arrangement to submit returns by XML file and an excel utilities also provided and there it self a button was provided so that XML file will be automatically generated
