I have applied for new GST registration and submitted the complete application in GST portal. I have received a notice seeking clarification- CA number validation pending. I have mentioned the 12 digit consumer number in the electricity bill properly while submitting the application. How to resolve this error?

If you received a notice seeking clarification on your GST registration application stating that "CA number validation pending", it typically means that the Consumer Account (CA) number from your electricity bill could not be validated by the GST system or was not matched properly with the system records.
Here’s how you can resolve this issue:
✅ Step-by-Step Guide to Respond to CA Number Validation Pending 1. Recheck the CA Number Verify that the 12-digit CA number you entered matches exactly with what is printed on the electricity bill (no extra spaces, characters, or typos).
Make sure it is in the correct field in the application form.
2. Check the Bill Format Ensure the electricity bill:
Is recent (not older than 3 months).
Is in the name of the business or proprietor (as applicable).
Clearly displays the CA number.
3. Gather Supporting Documents You will now need to respond to the clarification notice on the GST portal with proper documentation.
Prepare the following:
A clear scan of the electricity bill showing the CA number.
If the electricity bill is not in your name, provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or consent letter from the owner.
Any supporting proof of business address if available (rent agreement, property tax receipt, etc.).
4. Login to the GST Portal Go to https://www.gst.gov.in/
Login using your TRN (Temporary Reference Number).
Under Services > Registration > Application for Filing Clarifications, select the relevant application.
5. File Clarification In the clarification field, briefly explain that you had entered the correct CA number and attach the supporting documents (electricity bill, NOC if needed).
Use PDF format for uploads; size should not exceed the portal's limits (generally 1–5 MB per file).
Example clarification message:
"The CA number mentioned in the application is correct and matches the electricity bill attached herewith. Kindly find the attached electricity bill for validation. If required, additional documents can be provided."
6. Submit the Clarification Submit the clarification and check back regularly for any further updates or notices.
🛠️ Additional Tips: If the CA number still does not validate, you may consider using another valid address proof such as:
Property tax receipt
Municipal khata copy
Lease agreement along with utility bill
Make sure the name and address match what is provided in the application.
