MF takes money from public and invest it in specified security (like equity or debentures).
As every person cannot judge by himself where to invest, (or cannot afford consultancy fee) can invest in MF and rest MF will handle.
Profit is either distributed by way of dividend or it is invested again.
Investment made by individual investor is in the form of units (usually of Rs 10) and it can be traded as End of Day on NAV basis.
