09 January 2008 MY question is about the maximum ceiling permitted for the FDI into companies involved into trading of General merchandise.

What abt the % of this FDI Ceiling and can it be raised by any special permission from the relevant ministry ?

09 January 2008 FDI is permitted only incase of manufacture activities. FDI is not permitted in case of Retailing Business.

09 January 2008 If so then how companies like Spencer, Mart etc.. have come to india and are running retail business ?? There must a minimum ceiling in FDI qua foreign companies.
