F d (joint account ) got interest 560000

i am working in a bank
my doubt
wife 58 years and husband 65 years opened a F.D (Joint A/c) in my bank (nationalised) now they got interest 5,60,000
so i divided the interest amount equally to wife and husband
now wife got 2,80,000
husband got 2,80,000
husband already senior citizen so no tds deducted
but wife is liable to deduct tds, so i deducted TDS 28000 (10%) on her portion of amount
is it right or wrong please tell me
because my friend told me to take either wife pan card or husband pan card, TDS should be deducted on total(560000) amount even if it is joint account
please clarify very urgent
