Exemption For HRA

This query is : Resolved

20 July 2009 Dear All,

Please let me know that for taking HRA Exemption, Does rent receipt is sufficient?

As we know that the employee is paying Rs 2000/- per month but provide the receipt of Rs 9000/- per month to the company.
Do the company should make any Restriction or he should accept that receipt

Waiting for reply

21 July 2009 actually speaking this is uniform problem for all the employer.

Taking the rent receipt is enough, but if you have any other doubt then may ask for PAN nos of landlord, notarised copy of rent agreement. You can even cross check this with landlord & found there is excessive rent mentioned then you make take the action against the employee. Can reject his claim for HRA.

For that you must be having the written communication proof with landlord.
