This discussion clarifies the process for using the 'e-pay later' option when filing your Income Tax Return (ITR). It advises paying taxes before receiving any intimation from the CPC and suggests using code 300 under 'e-pay tax'. If a demand is raised by the CPC before your payment is processed, you should respond by stating the payment has already been made, referencing the challan number.
If you choose e-pay later while filing ITR, do we have to wait for any acknowledgement from IT department to make the payment or choose e-pay tax and make new payment - if so which head do i choose - 300 or 400 . kindly advise. Regards, Mukund

Thank you Sir, I have already submitted under e-pay later and it says under processing. If I do it before processing completed by IT Department , it is under 300 and after intimation from CPC ( processing completed), if paid - it should be done under head 400 . Is my understanding correct ?

Yes, you are correct... when demand raised under intimation later... code 400. BTW, let me tell you that this time due to late processing of the payments, a demand may be raised before processing ITR, but you may reply to it ... "already paid wide challan no..... "
