04 September 2011 No, Income Tax Return is to be signed by person who files the return, if it is an individual it is to be signed by individual himself, in case of HUF by Karta etc with few exceptions for example if an individual is abroad by his authorized signatory....

It is applicable for digital signature also wherever mandatory.
