Digital Signature also referred as DSC, implies that a electronic document is signed digitally by the author of the document.
It guarantees that content of electronic document is neither tempered after issuance of the same.
It is a way of authenticating content of edocument & confirm its originality.
In Income tax TDS certificates viz. Form16 / 16A are now a days signed using digital signature.
Also SEBI requires many documents to signed using DSC.
