Depreciation V/s Amortization

This query is : Resolved

25 January 2009 Hi, what's the difference between depreciation and amortization? Please give me a detailed reply..

Thanks

anthony

25 January 2009 Depreciation is provided on assets for the wear and tear of the machinery.

Amortisation means the amount has been spent and that will be debited to p&l account over a period of time. ie amortised.

In first case the asset value will be there and in the second case the amount is spent and it has to be written off.

25 January 2009 thank you Sir for the reply
