Dearness Allowance (DA) & Dearness Pay (DP)

This query is : Resolved

22 October 2022 Please anyone tell me about the differences between Dearness Allowance and Dearness Pay. I am really confused.

Someone says that they are treated same but if that is true so what was the need to introduce that 2nd term?

22 October 2022 As such both the terms are different. An employee gets basic pay with dearness allowance (which is to compensate inflation) with some additional perquisites as his/her salary.
Sometimes, Government declare some additional benefits like retirement bonus etc. for its employees. These benefits are generally calculated based on basic pay (say some percentage of it). Most of the times these benefits are calculated based on Basic pay and some part of Dearness allowance. While calculating these, whatever part of Dearness allowance included in the basic pay is called Dearness pay. It is not paid in salary, but added to Basic pay for calculation of any such benefit, so that the employee get more benefit due to Dearness Pay.
