If a student secures 60+ marks in 1 subject but fails to secure 30 marks in another subject, he loses exemption in that subject....is this rule still valid..??

Yes it is still valid. If you cannot clear your group in next three consecutive attempts i.e, you can carry your exemption only for three consecutive attempts.
