Cancellation of registration

I want to know that if I cancel GST no today as I am not doing any work. Should I have to file annual return for FY 2017-18. Pl advise.

28 May 2019 Dear Sir,
If you are an GSTN holder you must file the Annual return , even if you cancel the registration you must file for the period of the active operation of GSTN.

You mean to say that I should first file return then cancel the registration.
