One of my collegue has received notice under above section this month. Now ITO has demanded the information regarding Sale/Purchase of Property made in FY-2006-07 claiming that my collegue has not mentioned PAN in that transaction and he also demanded to provide ROI, P & L, Bal. Sheet etc. Now my Qusetion is whether ITO Can demand such information of earlier FY under this section. Also want to know how to answer ITO.

Any information called the the ITO u/s 133(6) has to be provided. In case you do not respond the ITO has power to levey penalty of Rs. 10,000/-. At the same time he can re-open the assessment in want of details so better supply the details as called for.
