Bonus paid to workers is an direct or indirect expenses. please clarify

Now a days bonus is paid as per Payment of Bonus Act which is no way connected to the production so it is to be treated as indirect expense
If it is paid for good performance in production it can be classified as direct expenses.
If it is paid for good performance in production it can be classified as direct expenses.
