01 September 2011 Continuing professional education (CPE) refers to the ongoing, structured and unstructured learning and educational opportunities that are pursued by particular professional groups and their members. This paper argues that CPE needs to discard its traditional, conservative mantle and assume a new agenda more consistent with the emancipatory and transformative imperatives associated with the learning organization. To guide this development, a set of philosophical principles is provided and these are grounded in the work of two theorists, Paulo Freire and Antonio Gramsci. It is suggested that this more radical approach to CPE within the learning organization will encourage less adherence to domesticating and passive modes of CPE.

01 September 2011 Thank you sir. But i needed a difference between structured and unstructured learning because seperate CPE hours are alloted to them. I basically dont know what do institute mean by structured learning and unstructured learning.

01 September 2011 Dear Joshi,

Structured learning means a learning thorough a structured medium like attending seminars or lectures organised by branches of ICAI / Study Circles etc.

Unstructured learning means a learning without any structured approach like reading or watching videos on your own at your convenience either at your hoome or office or any other place.

Structured learning requires attending organised study circle meetings or seminars which entail CPE Credit.

Unstructured learning hours of credit can be taken by filing up a prescirbed form by the end of May of next Calender year from the end of the relevant calender year, specifying the areas in which you have done self study.
