arrear taxable or not?????

30 June 2011 one of our client has received arrears from the date of joining upto the retirement (1986 to 2005)by court case. So whether it will be taxable at the prevailing rate or taxable at d rate in which belongs...

30 June 2011 arrear taxable, but you may take relief under section 89

01 July 2011 thanks 4 ur reply but i want to know whether it will be taxable at the prevailing rate or it will b taxable at the rate in the year to which income belong. for example arrear received for the year P.Y.1998-99 will be taxable at the rate prevailing in a.y.1999-2000.
