Appointment of Auditor in case of Merger

When merger of two companies comes to effect in between of the year then is it required to call AGM and appoint auditor in the metting.

It depends upon whether both the companies loose their identity and a new one is born or one of them retains the identity. In the latter case the existing auditor of the continuing company continues.
