About Penalty for non filing of S.T return

11 February 2011 One of my client registered in Sept,2009 but from that date he didn,t file service tax return upto date, whether he will be liable for penalty. If only interest to be paid.Also whether he will be liable to pay penalty in case of nil return.What is the quantum of penalty.

11 February 2011 penalty leviable of Rs. 2000/-
Delay upto 15 days Rs. 500/-

Delay more than 15 days & less than 30 days Rs.1000/-

Delay more than 30 days Rs.1000/- + Rs.100/- for each day but not exceeding Rs.2000/-

14 February 2011 Thanks you sir, But i want to know whether this penalty to be levied per return means if we didn't file our S.T return for Oct 09 to Mar10 and two period of F.Y. 2010-11, then my penalty will be Rs.6000 i.e. Rs. 2,000 per return delayed over 30days.
