Many taxpayers face an 'Internal Validation Error' when filing their Income Tax Return (ITR), often linked to bank account details. This error can occur due to mismatches in email IDs or names between your bank account and the tax portal, or issues with account pre-validation. To resolve it, ensure your bank account details on the portal match your bank records, select the correct 'Type of Account' (Savings or Current), and nominate a pre-validated account for refunds. If an account consistently shows errors, consider closing it or selecting another fully validated account.
Many taxpayers during ITR 1, 2, 3 or 4 filing encounters an "Internal Validation Error" which is related to selecting the account type. This error is basically linked to bank account details.

The 'Internal Validation Error' during ITR filing is often related to selecting the incorrect 'Type of Account' or issues with bank account details, such as email ID or name mismatches between the bank and the tax portal.
For AY 25-26, you must show all active bank accounts, excluding dormant or inactive ones, while filing your ITR.
Navigate to 'General Information' and then 'Bank Details' on the portal. Click on the desired bank account and select 'Nominate for Refund'.
Go to the 'Revalidate' section, select the correct 'Type of Account', and click 'Proceed to Verify'. Validate using Aadhaar OTP sent to your registered mobile number. If the error persists, check 'My Profile' > 'Bank Account' to confirm the email ID problem.
To fix a name mismatch, you need to perform KYC at your bank to update your details. After updating, re-validate the account on the tax portal.
If a bank account consistently shows errors, it should be closed or deselected for refund. Instead, choose a fully validated account with a green status for mobile, email, and eligibility for refund.
