query regarding reservation while enrollment as a member

Dear Sir/Mam,
I have applied for membership on 25th july 2016 and today got a mail from Dr.Deepak chanda(deepak.chanda@icai.in) asking for providing proof of belonging to OBC(other backward caste) as i have no provided it alobg with aoolication for membership(i.e. form-2), as per my knowledge in form-2 their is no option of caste category. Whereas i also do not belong to OBC. i request u all to please provide me appropriate suggestion what should i do now.

Such kind of mail appears to be somewhat suspicious and fake. Try to call up members section of ICAI and inform them about such mail being sent from ICAI id. The official id will be something like your.name@icai.org and in this case it is ending as your.name@icai.in which looks to be somewhat fishy.
And fully agree that Institute does not have any columns reserved for asking any caste information in FORM 2. Hence, be fully cautious and do not reply to such mails. Normally, ICAI does not seek such information, even if it needs it, you will be intimated through post and not by email.
Hence, be careful and do not divulge any of your details to that mail id unless you get official confirmation.

However, Our Institute generally allots .org as the mail id ending and not .in, Kindly watch out for the difference.

thank you sir for providing me with this suggestion. and i have not shared any information in reply to that,i have just simply replied that i dont belong to obc and so i cant provide any certificate. And as suggested by you i will call the members to tomorrow and inform them for the same.
