Digital Signature Panbased !!

One of my friend while registering the DSC return got a message like put your pan based digital signature, in this regard, he had used the digital signature as normally done in filing ROC. What this message mean? should we then have a separate digital signature for income tax return. Getting totally confused. Pls... help.
