Newly incorporated companies registering via the MCA portal are automatically assigned an ESIC registration number. However, these companies are granted a six-month grace period from their incorporation date, or until they exceed specific employee thresholds, before mandatory ESI Act compliance begins. During this period, companies can opt to set their status to 'dormant' on the ESIC website. This 'dormant' status must be renewed every six months if the company still does not meet the ESI Act's coverage thresholds, otherwise, ESI registration will automatically activate, requiring full compliance.
