CA Reveals 26x Salary Growth Journey: From Rs 1.92 Lakh to Rs 57.8 Lakh in 10 Years

In a profession where success is often measured over years rather than months, a Chartered Accountant's salary journey has caught the attention of finance professionals and CA aspirants across India.

Anirudh Rapole, a Chartered Accountant who spent nearly a decade with KPMG, recently shared how his annual earnings grew from just Rs 1.92 lakh during articleship in 2013 to Rs 57.8 lakh in 2022 after advancing through various roles and eventually moving overseas.

His story has resonated with thousands on social media, offering a realistic picture of how consistent growth, professional development, and global opportunities can transform a career in Chartered Accountancy.

CA Reveals 26x Salary Growth Journey: From Rs 1.92 Lakh to Rs 57.8 Lakh in 10 Years

KPMG CA Shares His Salary Progression

Rapole detailed his compensation growth over a span of ten years, beginning with his articleship days and culminating in a managerial role in Sweden.

His salary progression reportedly looked like this:

Year Position Annual Compensation
2013 Articleship Trainee Rs 1.92 lakh
2014 Articleship Trainee Rs 2.52 lakh
2015 Articleship Trainee Rs 3.36 lakh
2016 Senior Associate Around Rs 6.5 lakh
2018 Assistant Manager Rs 13.5 lakh plus bonus
2021 Assistant Manager, Sweden Rs 46.3 lakh plus bonus
2022 Manager, Sweden Rs 57.8 lakh plus bonus

The figures highlight a career path that many young professionals can relate to, starting with modest earnings and gradually building expertise, responsibility, and compensation over time.

'CA Is a Real Equaliser'

One of the key takeaways from Rapole's journey is his belief that the Chartered Accountancy profession rewards merit and perseverance.

As the first Chartered Accountant in his family, he shared that he did not have the advantage of a professional background or established guidance. Instead, he relied on continuous learning, hard work and career progression to achieve his goals.

Describing CA as a "real equaliser," he emphasized that individuals from diverse economic and educational backgrounds can create meaningful career opportunities through dedication to the profession.

International Exposure Accelerated Career Growth

A major turning point in Rapole's journey came when he transitioned from KPMG India to KPMG Sweden.

The move significantly increased his compensation, with his annual package rising to more than Rs 46 lakh before crossing Rs 57 lakh after his promotion to Manager.

However, he also highlighted an important point often overlooked in salary comparisons: Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). While overseas salaries may appear substantially higher, living costs, taxes and local expenses can significantly impact actual savings and lifestyle.

Why This Story Matters for CA Students

For many CA students and newly qualified professionals, salary discussions often focus on starting packages. Rapole’s journey offers a different perspective.

His experience demonstrates that:

  • Career growth in Chartered Accountancy is often gradual but substantial.
  • Articleship serves as a foundation for long-term professional success.
  • Promotions and skill development can significantly increase earning potential.
  • International assignments can open doors to higher-paying opportunities.
  • Continuous upskilling and higher education can further accelerate career progression.

MBA After KPMG

After spending nearly ten years with KPMG, Rapole chose to pursue an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, adding another dimension to his professional journey.

His decision reflects a growing trend among finance professionals who combine technical expertise in accounting and taxation with broader business and leadership education to unlock new career opportunities.

The Bigger Lesson

At a time when social media often highlights overnight success stories, Rapole's career progression serves as a reminder that professional growth is usually built through years of consistent effort.

His journey from an articleship stipend of Rs 1.92 lakh to a Rs 57.8 lakh managerial package underscores the long-term value of perseverance, skill development, and strategic career decisions qualities that continue to define success in the Chartered Accountancy profession.
