Can a female be karta of HUF?

AS PER THE HINDU SUCCESSION ACT 1956, THERE CAN BE A HUF CONSISTING ONLY OF FEMALE MEMBERS WHEREIN THE KARTA WILL BE A LADY. ONE MORE SITUATION WHERE A WOMAN CAN BECOME KARTA IS WHEN THE KARTA (WHO ORIGINALLY WAS A MALE) PASSED AWAY AND HE DOES NOT HAVE ANY SONS BUT ONLY DAUGHTERS, THEN THE ELDEST DAUGHTER CAN BECOME THE KARTA.

ONLY THE ELDEST SON CAN BECOME KARTA

a woman can be a karta after the demise of the male head in three situations.

1. when the sons are minors and she acts as their guardian.
2. when the male members are not in a position to act as karta and have given her the permission to manage the family affairs. &
3. when there are no male members in the family.

An HUF that has only female members can continue to exist and one of the female members will be the karta. So if all the children are daughters, the HUF can continue with the mother as the head and daughters as coparceners.
