The Union Finance Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, will inaugurate the 26th Annual Conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Income Tax at The Ashok, New Delhi on 9th June 2010 at 9:45 AM. The Union Minister of State for Finance (Revenue), Shri S. S. Palanimanickam, will deliver the valedictory address on 10th June in the two-day conference.

The Budget Estimates 2010-11 have pegged direct tax collections at Rs.4,30,000 crore at a growth of 16.2% over the Budget Estimates for 2009- 10. The collection target becomes stiff in view of relief and concessions announced in Budget 2010 involving direct tax outgo of about Rs.26,000 crores. The Conference will deliberate strategies to achieve the tax collection target.

Improving taxpayer services will be another area of concern. The Income Tax department has striven to improve the delivery of taxpayer services by introducing several schemes such as outsourcing PAN; E-Filing of returns and E-Payment of taxes; online Tax Information Network; Large Taxpayer Units; Refund Banker Scheme; Sevottam and Aayakar Sewa Kendras; Centralized Processing Center; etc. The Conference will deliberate ways to consolidate and refine these schemes to further improve taxpayer services.

In order to make the tax administration more efficient and effective, the Conference will deliberate upon organizational changes including augmenting manpower and delegation of financial powers.
