Why should i continue doing CA?

Final 3229 views 7 replies

I failed CA final exam today( old course) and i Ranted about institute all day. I argued with my parents regarding droping of CA course. My argument was that i don't have interest in working CA field ( Tax and Audit. I actually hate those field)  and i am very much interested in spending my life in finance field. I am also CFA(USA)  Level 2 student and now my exam is in june. So i cant do CA final in may and CFA in june both together. I have to choose one of them. I am interested doing my career in finance sector where CA has little or no value. CFA and MBA has great value in finance field. So why should I do CA? only because it has great respect in society ? only because i can say that i am CA ?

I found no reason for doing CA, so please let me know whether i have come with right analysis like CA has not much value in finance sector. Also let me know reasons for continuing with CA. IF you are wondering why I gave final attempt in november? i gave it simply because i have spend 5 years of my life doing it. So i was just trying to finish my CA course and  say bye bye to CA but tht didn't happen and i failed. If you need more info. on me, i will complete 22 years this feb, i gave my PE2 exams one attempt early means on may instead of nov so thats why i was 1 attempt a head of friends(but now no more).

Hi Ankit,

I hope you will read this in full. I feel sorry that you failed and even sorry that you want to drop the course. It always makes me sad when someone wishes to discontinue CA.

Everyone will tell you finish the course barring those who may say if you don't feel competent, stop ranting about the course and go do what you think you're fit for.

Having passed upto PE-2, don't you feel CA is achieveable and just a step away? Have all your friends cleared PE 2? Aren't there any who are still stuck at PE-2? Of course you should compare yourself to those who are doing better but I am saying this 'cause you shouldn't feel dejected.

CA is certainly not a test of intelligence. It's just a test of commitment and practice. I repeat commitment and practice. CA in may and CFA in june. Seems so plausible!!

You've already studied for CA and CFA you should work hard. But in your every minute from now and you can certainly do both with good results.

CFA isn't really time bound. A lot of professionals do CFA as they work and progress with work and family. CA is also flexible with time but articleship demands (unless you've already completed) and particularly, the question of "how many attempts" just hangs always.

Many CAs don't get into Tax or Audit. Most don't. They  often work in audit for first few years and jump into some industry. Even if you're going to fields that are remotely connected with CA it's nicer to have a heavy weight like CA on behind your name and on your resume, my friend.

I had a look at your blog. Chess, sports, CA and CFA. Doesn't that sound good? A chartered financial analyst and chartered accountant, a blogger, a chess and football enthusiast,  product-reviewer. How diverse?

Now how does this sound- A chartered financial analyst, a blogger, a chess and football enthusiast, products-critique and a CA-drop out?

CA is more of test of perseverance. Quoting Mr. M P Vijayakumar, "Between the age of 18 to 25, god puts you under a test and its up to you to emerge out of as a winner or get stuck there, crumble and lose in life"

Do you honestly feel you studied your max and failed?  If you think that's is it, and this is the maximum you're capable of and you're talents are this limited, then drop out at your own will.

If you think you gave your best and the ICAI has done injustice, drop out and give the CFA a shot and what are the chances they do justice?

Forgive yourself, give yourself this chance. What's the hurry? It's not the end of life if you don't pass CA. Just give it again and give it super well. Do CFA with more pride. Practice so hard that you know you'll crack it. If you've ever in your life worked that hard, you'll know it that you'll win. Like this-

I hope I helped.

Very good...Good decision...Here people are dying to complete CA and u wanna say bye bye to it...Great man...

Thanks for your time and helping me. I am actually not worried about hard work, i just can't motivate myself with continuing CA . My friends final attempt is still on may 2010, so i don't have left behind feeling. Ofcourse i feel CA degree achievable. But i am afraid of the result day. I didn't expected at all the marks that i got today. what if same injustice happens again ? So i may give 1 more try this may, i hope this time i cleared it.

 Best of luck

Wel, Am in the same situation.

What is your position right now?

oh my god! This was 8 years ago, at that time I was in 8th standard. And today I feel the same. being at IPCC level and have had multiple failures. Can Ankit Gindoria reply on this? I just want to know what he did further?
