I am currently facing a dilemma in deciding what kind of excise registration, I should get for my father's business.
A quick background on the activities we have in our business. It is a trading / industrial supply - proprietor business. We purchase from Importers, First Stage Dealers and soon we might ourself Import. Most of our customers are manufacturers and therefore want us to pass on cenvat credit with the goods we sell, which we cannot at present as we do not have an excise registration.
We plan to get excise registration, but are confused whether we have to take multiple registrations or single registration? Because as I mentioned, if we import, when we pass excise we must have importer registration. If I buy from an importer or a manufacturer, technically I am First Stage Dealer. If I buy from a first stage dealer to pass on excise, I must be 2nd Stage Dealer. Or do I only have to have say an Importer registration, and I can use the single registration for issuing all types of excise gate passes?
What should be done? Also let me know what are the consequences of having multiple registrations? Do I also have to file separate returns for each registration every month?
