If you haven't filed an income tax return in previous years and are a salary holder, you may be able to file an updated return for up to three years (AY 20-21, AY 21-22, AY 22-23), provided there's a tax liability. There's a penalty of Rs. 1000 payable online via NSDL using challan 280. You will need to declare any additional income in the relevant heads within the updated return form.

You can file updated return provided you have any tax liability .. For AY 2020-21 and AY 2021-22 now itself.. While for AY 2022-23 after two months.

For paying tax u/s 140B, the taxpayer may use challan 280 with Minor head 300, mentioning the challan details under 140B challan section under schedule Part-B ATI in the updated return. Other receipts..
