What is TAN?

Every person who is required to deduct TDS (Tax deducted at source)or TCS (Tax Collection at source) of any other person need to obtain TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) in order to avail TAN one have to file 49B.

How to apply For TAN (Offline)

Assesse can apply for TAN by submitting Form 49B at TIN(Tax information network) facilitation centres. Find your nearest TIN facilitation centre with a biometric-based facility. TAN is allotted to applicants by the income tax department.

In the case of in-person applications, there's no need to furnish any supporting documents to the department.

In case if you are applying online, the acknowledgement received on submitting the application Form 49B needs to be furnished to the department as proof.

Online procedure

  • An assessee need to file application Form 49B online
  • A confirmation screen with data filled which the applicant provides, would be displayed
  • Assesse can edit & submit the same

Procedure After Receipt of Acknowledgement

Once an Assesse provides confirmation, an acknowledgement screen would be displayed. This acknowledgement will consists,

  • Unique acknowledgement number of 14-digits
  • Name and contact details of the applicant
  • Details with respect to payment
  • Space for signature

After getting the same an Assesse need to save & print the Acknowledgement & after making it signed he should sent it to NSD (National Securities Depository Limited)

 

Processing Fees 

The fee for processing the application for TAN application is Rs 65 (Rs 55 application charge + 18.00% Goods & Services Tax), and this is a non-refundable fee if your application is rejected. 

Once the form is Submitted the department will verify the submitted details. If the application appears correct, NSDL will send TAN details to the applicant's address as provided in Form 49B, or they could also send an email with the TAN details for online application.

 

Points to be taken care of while filling Form 49B 

Following point need be taken care while filling form 49B

  • It should be filled in English with all Caps 
  • Details of AO need to be furnished if not available then it could be accessed from the income tax office it self 
  • Details with respect to the district, area, area code, etc. are required to be provided by tax deductor or collector. If such detail isn't known, income tax office would assist you to find out the same
  • Form must submit with full information
  • The applicant's address must be an Indian address.
  • Individuals responsible for filing and submitting tax must list down their designation mandatorily.
