When a student reaches or succeeds in clearing the 12th grade, confusions about which career to pursue becomes overt. It is a common topic for the students as well as their parents to identify the most suitable educational career to lay down a solid pillar of their lifelong career.

Most of the students pass through this phase of life. But it’s also important to be alert and identify best available career options. It is advisable that a student should pursue a career which is challenging, rewarding and satisfying.

In the recent internal assessment, it was found that first-hand information is available to class 12/graduation students about CS as a profession. Most of the students have started choosing a career in CS.

The career course of company Secretary is not only prestigious but is financially rewarding too. This role is considered to be one of the most respectable ones in the pecking order. This is because, the CS acts as a mediator between the company and its board of directors, stakeholders, government and regulatory authorities.

The company secretary (CS) is a professional course conducted by The Institute Of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). The course primarily consists of three programs: Foundation, Executive and Professional. In order to become a CS, the candidates would be needed to pass these programs.

Those who are interested in pursuing a career as a CS should start at the early stage, after the completion of 10+2. For those who are still confused and not very sure about needing a CS course along with the graduation, can directly jump into executive Program, which can be done after the completion of graduation or post graduation. The minimum eligibility is graduation with no percentage barrier what so ever.

Qualified company secretaries can find well-paid jobs in the private sector and public sector, banks and financial institutions, company law boards, government departments, etc. The larger the company the better the emoluments earned by the CS. Private consultancy jobs are a very lucrative option.

To study company secretary it is important to have proficiency in law and management, good communication skills to deal with varied types of people, and the capacity to fit into the corporate environment.

The role of a company secretary is that of an advisor for all the legal matters of the company. Hence, it is equally important for CS to monitor, understand and anticipate changes in corporate environment and then respond to make necessary adjustments for avoiding the ill effects of external changes. There are lots of things about a company secretary that you will learn, once you start studying it.

The CS course is complete after students have undergone 15 months of practical and modular training, in which students learn about the functioning of the corporate sector. A candidate who has passed the final examination of the institute is required to possess the practical training as prescribed in the Regulations for becoming eligible to the associate Membership of the Institute.

Further, before commencing the 15 months training, the students are also required to compulsory attend and complete five day training orientation program which is being conducted by all the regional councils. Application forms are available on the website and also at the concerned regional council.

As, said earlier, the secretary of a company handles the legal issues and compliance of a company.
