Sometimes, due to a rush when we pay tax via challan, it might select the wrong Assessment Year. Now let's check how to correct this mistake online.
Don't worry - you can easily fix these mistakes.
How?
The Income Tax Department has an online process that gives you a chance to correct the challan details you entered wrongly, so you don't face any problems or notices later.

How to correct mistakes online?
Log in to the Income-tax e-filing portal with your credentials.
Navigate to: Services → Challan Correction.
Click on → Create Challan Correction Request.
Select "Online Challan Correction".
Then you'll need to provide details of the challan, which you have made mistake:
- CIN (Challan Identification Number)
- BSR code (bank branch code)
- Date of payment
These can be found on your paid challan receipt.
On the portal, select which fields you want to correct (such as Assessment Year, Major Head, Minor Head).
Enter the correct details (choose from dropdowns or fill appropriately).
Submit the request and e-verify (for example using Aadhaar OTP or DSC).
The request goes to the Assessing Officer (AO) or the processing centre (CPC) for approval. You can track the status in the portal.
