How to apply for E-PAN for Instant PAN with Aadhar Card?

Recently, The Income tax department has launched the service for Instant e-PAN allotment which is as fast as real time allotment  (Beta Version) of Permanent Account Number (PAN) for Individual Assessees having Aadhar ID.

Here, we will discuss everything about this new and fast PAN allotment service provided by ITD. The new e-pan will be a digitally signed electronic format of the PAN card issued by the department. However, this is available on first –come- first serve basis and it’s free of cost.

The E-PAN generate by the department will be a valid proof of allotment of PAN. This will be a paperless facility, therefore, the applicant is not required to send any physical documents to the department.

Who can apply for e-pan?

The service is available only for Individuals (other than minors) and not available for firms, HUFs, trusts and companies etc. Also, the service of instant PAN is not available for those who are non-residents. Thus, it all comes down to Resident –Individuals.

What I need before applying for Instant PAN?

You would need following things before applying for Instant PAN:

  • Have a valid Aadhar Number with updated Mobile Phone Number (Verify Email / Mobile for Aadhar)
  • Details mentioned in the Aadhar Card such as Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Mobile Number and Address should match exactly with the details in the PAN Application (Update details in Aadhar)
  • Scanned Image of signature on a white paper of the Applicant, with specifications Resolution - 200 DPI; Type - colour;  File type- JPEG; Size - Max 10 KB; Dimension – 2cm x4.5 cm

How to apply – Step by Step process for applying e-PAN?

Step 1: Go to Income Tax Efiling website: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in

Step 2: Go to the left corner of the website and click Instant e- pan “Under Quick Links Tab”

Step 3: Read the Guidelines and prepare all the documents at hand such as scanned signature etc.

Step 4: Fill in the all the requisite details for Aadhar e-KYC and you will receive an OTP.

Step 5: Fill in the OTP and submit

Step 6: You will receive a 15-character Acknowledgement Number for E-PAN application which you can use to check the status of the application

Step 7: Once generated, you can download e-pan from the website

Please Note: No physical copy of PAN card will be given to you after successful generation of E-pan.

Update: Instant e-PAN facility (Beta Version) has been closed on 06.07.2018 and the same would re-open for full-scale production after closely analyzing the feedback received from the users
